Khichadi

Ingredients used in Khichadi

  • Ginger garlic paste – 1 tea spoon.
  • Turmeric powder – 1 pinch.
  • Salt – to taste.
  • Onion (slices) – 1 number.
  • Green chilies – 3 numbers.
  • Cardamom – 3 numbers.
  • Pepper corns – 5 numbers.
  • Cloves – 3 numbers.
  • Cinnamon stick (small) – 2 numbers.
  • Bay leaves – 2 numbers.
  • Water – 3 cup.
  • Masoor dal – 1/2 cup.
  • Rice – 1 cup.
  • Mint leaves (chopped) – 1 tablespoon.
  • Coriander leaves (chopped) – 1 tablespoon.
  • Ghee – 2 tablespoons.
  • Oil – 2 tablespoons.
  • Yogurt – 2 tablespoons.

Method:

  • Soak the rice and masoor dal, in separate bowls for 30 minutes.
  • Heat oil in a pan, add bay leaves, cinnamon, cardamom, cloves, pepper, roast it.
  • Then add green chilies, sliced onions, salt, turmeric, ginger garlic paste and cook this till raw flavor is gone.
  • Then add curd (optional), rice, masoor dal, water, chopped mint and coriander leavesand cook it with closed lid till rice is done.

At last, add ghee on top of the rice and put the lid on for few minutes.
